"REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR—THE DAY OF INFAMY"
Hello and aloha, my name is Dorinda. Historians call me "a primary source as a Pearl Harbor survivor," because on December 7, 1941, I was six years old, actually living INSIDE the harbor during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and watched the attack from my front yard on the Pearl City Peninsula, only a few hundred yards from the ships in "battleship row." In my Pearl Harbor books and DVD's, I describe the Pearl Harbor attack and the events that followed, watching attack planes which flew so low I could see the pilot’s goggles, seeing them bomb the American fleet, fearing a Japanese invasion, then hiding in the cane fields above Pearl Harbor, later carrying my gas mask at all times, living under strict military rule, experiencing blackouts, rationing, air raid drills, censorship, martial law, wartime currency, and finally after four long years, peace.
My books, “Pearl Harbor Child” and “Pearl Harbor Warriors,” originally published by the USS Arizona Memorial Museum, tell not only my story, but also Pearl Harbor survivor stories of other eyewitnesses of the December 7, 1941 event that changed the entire world. As teachers became aware of my unique perspective on the event that led America into WWII, many asked for help in teaching Pearl Harbor history. So we produced a Teacher's Resource Guide for both books. Today, my husband, Larry and I travel widely, with speaking engaagements at schools, universities, conventions, and even cruise ships. As a longtime producer and director, Larry's audiovisual skills provide dynamic sound and visuals that help make my stories come alive, and our DVD's include this special AV content. We hope you enjoy our site!
